The U.S. Embassy, Kigali, in Partnership with University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies – Gisenyi Campus created an American Corner at the University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) Gisenyi Campus in Rubavu, Western Province.

It was launched by the US Embassador to Rwanda Donald W.Koran on February 2012 and so February 17th,2017 celebrated the 5th anniversary.
The American Corner was set up to provide students and residents of Rubavu with educational opportunities, library, computer access and English language skills.
The purpose of this partnership through the American Corner is to promote mutual understanding between the United States and Rwanda.
The goal of this American Corner is to promote the following pillars:
– Access to balanced information about American life and culture
– Access to English Language material
– Access to Academic Advising on study in the United States
– Access to internet service, free of charge, and other technology to promote the above.
– Serve as a platform for programs and presentations of interest to our audience
So far, This partnership has beared important fruits in many different areas like English Learning, Entrepreneurship, Media and Communication Skills, Arts, building confidence in young women ,Public speaking skills, Leadership skills, Book Clubs, Technology, Health programs, Kids programs Community Policing, etc just to mention few.
This space is open to the Public where the Community come and enjoy the programs for free. The daily activities are Library services. Community and Students can Borrow books as many times as they want. Currently this partnership has introduced the (Massive Open Online Courses) MOOC programs where Participants and the Patrons access Online courses offered by the US universities for free.

The corner is equipped with a print collection, very attractive for lecturers, students, professionals and for young kids and parents. In addition, patrons have access to free Internet connection at the corner, access to electronic resources and to AC programming (Kids Programs, English language programs, Cultural, Alumni and speaker programs, Maker programs, Education advising sessions). The Corner is open Monday-Friday 8:00-12:00 and from 13:00-20:00. Closed on the weekends.
